Il progetto dell'Architetto Gae Aulenti

Far from the high-tech image of the other contemporary airports, San Francesco d’Assisi airport is born to be a recognizable architecture inserted into the Umbrian landscape.

The new terminal of 4700mq has 8 red reinforce concrete square-plan pavilions with green copper pitched roof and wide windows from which you can taste the view of Assisi. The pavilions contain towards the land side, the waiting rooms, a cafeteria, a conference hall and an exhibition hall. Only the structure is maintained from the old building. Internal space has been completely redesigned: at the center there is the shopping area with two lines of shops on the side and other operating offices inside the building. The restaurant is composed by two side by side halls, similar on form and dimension with the halls in the passengers zone. On the outside the parking area is covered with olive trees which give shade to the parked car and also remind you that you are in Umbria.

One of the most comfortable and innovative infrastructures of our peninsula is born from the masterly hands of the architect Gae Aulenti.
